China Establishes New Internet Regulator

According to a powerful arm of China’s government, it is announced that a new central agency–the State Internet Information Office, has been created to regulate every corner of the vast Internet community in the country. The move appeared to complement a going on crackdown on political dissidents and other social critics.
However, the announcement is vaguely worded. Questions such as whether the State Internet Information Office would actually supersede a welter of ministries and government offices that already claimed jurisdiction over parts of cyberspace, remained unclear.
According to China’s State Council Information Office, it is said that it was transferring its own employees of Internet regulators to the new agency. The new agency would oversee all kinds of activities in the cyberworld, direct online content management which include text, video and gaming.
