It is the device that is fueled almost a decade of rumors and speculation. While IPAD is not officially available, is to this day I am happy to take a final, production unit have before the official start. I’m testing a IPAD 64GB Wi-Fi device and so far I’m impressed with what Apple has delivered.
The IPAD is comfortable to hold, and Apple’s design team worked hard to significantly offset size and weight. In practice I found the 1.5 pounds to process extremely lightweight form factor and use it for hours at a time. The screen is bright enough for outdoor work fine and also worked in the dim interior of an airplane as well. Performance remains excellent and on par with the pre-production units I saw at the start. I had no problem with the lack of multitasking or running applications in the background, with the sole exception of the third party’s applications, which would have been nice. Backward compatibility works very well, I had no problem running oversized iPhone Apps (although apps look a little text heavy and blocky). Even demanding games such as Star Wars Trench Run worked quite well. Title for the IPAD like NOVA are absolutely amazing and the integration of iPhone / iPod Touch and IPAD versions of Scrabble shows the potential of this optimized platform for synergies. Forget the Nintendo DSi defined XL: IPAD is now the big screen mobile gaming.
Sync with iTunes works seamlessly, as you imagine it. I had no problem to transfer all my existing content, including music, videos and apps. The large screen makes viewing videos a pleasure, but the lack of true wide-screen aspect ratio means a lot of my salary had either black bars have been trimmed at the top and bottom or a little bit when I eventually agreed upon zooming in, I would love for a IPAD with a true widescreen ratio, the view optimized for video playback.
How I fixed in my original hands, I prefer a backlit LCD display for reading on eInk. The ability to use as an eBook reader in the dark without cumbersome eInk refresh makes the IPAD my ebook reader of choice. The iBooks application is wonderful. I had no problem downloading of content. The reading experience was excellent, although I needed to set the default font and size to adjust the settings to my liking.
One thing that IPAD from distant cousins iPhone and iPod Touch is different is the care of the UI Apple has faithfully make the form factor. It is this level of detail that the IPAD can serve as a “Tweener” between the phone and the PC. Each of the standard apps like mail, notes, calendars and cards have all been optimized with new user-friendly improvements. The advanced e-mail profile is especially wonderful and allows me to more of my mail along with a look at my inbox and switch between different accounts to see with ease. As more and more tap into the Third IPAD ecosystem, I expect this to improve over time.
There is no doubt that the IPAD works well as a media-and content-consumption tool, but also Apple advertises it as suitable for productivity as well. I have already mentioned e-mail, but what productivity in the office? I have it gives me a version of Quickoffice comes but now it is a world iWork. iWork – Pages, Keynote and Numbers – for the IPAD is a joy to use. Once again, the concern that the Apple applications for both form factor and adopted to optimize user experience provides a completely different way of working with content. Probably the most controversial is the on-screen keyboard. It works well enough in practice for the e-mail and shorter texts, but also for long form content, you are likely to be a Bluetooth keyboard or Apple keyboard dock like to crank out text. Since it is not possible yet, I was not able to test the VGA output adapter to see how well would the IPAD to work for a presentation.
I have made no formal battery life tests, but shows my general experience, I would have no problem with cross-country with an IPAD and still have plenty of battery life when I land. That means I can get through a day without power cord.
What’s missing? Well, I would still like a camera, in fact, I would like two, one for photos and one for video conferencing. While I do not think the lack of multitasking is a huge problem, I would rather keep the ability to run apps in the background and go a better way to get between them, when finally on the home screen every time, while the $ 499 version is quite good, and Apple is to be commended for beating this point, it is quite easy to max a fully loaded high-end equipment and accessories and get into laptop range of prices.
I regularly phone and a laptop, in fact, I think everyone on my bedside table. Neither is suitable for places where I want to be connected, but where a laptop is too big and the screen of a phone is too small. Like Goldilocks, I needed something for my performance, which is exactly what was found in places where not operate laptops and mobile phones. While there is a different model of computing as most of us are used, so I expect the device with resonance both sophisticated and novice users.
